Houston NetSquared tonight - geeks, nonprofits and beer
The Houston NetSquared group is meeting again tonight - this time with Jim Forrest from Technology for All to talk about Houston low-income community outreach (and perhaps some Houston-area wifi discussion??).
This is a really interesting and diverse group that have a lot on their minds as far as social technologies,
Last month we had David Geilhufe speak with us about the Katrina PeopleFinder project, which was a bit over my head technically speaking - but still very stimulating as far learning the good and the bad of online grassroots campaigns and national emergency (un)preparedness.
As the Tech For All group played a big role in providing Hurricane Katrina evacuees with computers and online access in the Astrodome and also leads other city-wide initiatives benefitting lower income communities, I think we'll get the same kind of stimulating dialogue running at this meetup as well.
I think that for now, the main challenge that lies ahead for the group is taking ideas from the groups' conversations and moving them as actionable items into the Real World. We may be a bit away from that yet, but it will be very interesting to see how things turn out.
Wanna' join us for pub food, beer and Web 2.0 discussion?
